Terence Percy George Stockbridge, known as ‘Terry’, passed away on Sunday 21st of July 2019 aged 90. In recent months, battling illness, he showed the same dignity, courage and humour as he had throughout his life.
Terry lived happily in Merrow with Meryle, his lovely partner of 28 years. He was a wonderful father to Lynne and to Karen, and very proud grandad of Luke. His humour and kindness will be missed by all his extended family; Nigel, Jennie, Valerie, Malcolm, Charlotte, Sean, Ashleigh,Emily,Tamsin, Alex, Ellie, Dottie,Nikki, Neil, David, Chris, Neil, Lawrie and Ben.
Terry was a talented artist, an ardent Spurs fan and a long standing member of the West Surrey Golf Club. He grew up in Tottenham. After service as a photographer in the RAF, Terry graduated in Illustration and textile design from London University. He taught Art and Design for over 30 years before leaving teaching to concentrate full time on painting. His bold and colourful paintings were unconventional takes on local Surrey landscapes and Cornish coastal scenes. Terry’s early work was exhibited at the ICA and by the Arts Council. His work has been shown at the Guildford Fine Arts Society annual exhibition, the 'Vivartis' show, the Cranleigh Arts Centre, the Harvey Gallery, KD Fine Art; and also at galleries in Winchester, Southampton, and Salisbury.
The funeral service to celebrate Terry’s life will be held at 12 noon on Monday, 5th August at St John the Evangelist Church, 222 Epsom Road, Merrow GU4 7AA. Family flowers only please. If you feel able to make a donation to Prostate Cancer UK in memory of Terry you can do so on this page.
